ZACHARY D. KRAVITZ is an associate in the Columbus office of Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP where he focuses his practice in the Energy and Regulated Industries Practice Group.  Mr. Kravitz advises clients in all aspects of energy law, including electric, natural gas, public utilities and regulatory law.   Mr. Kravitz has represented clients in areas of energy law, communications, water/wastewater industries, and related litigation in administrative and trial courts throughout Ohio.  Mr. Kravitz regularly advises American Municipal Power, Inc., a nonprofit, electric wholesale and technical service provider with over 125 member political subdivisions in seven states.

Mr. Kravitz frequently appears before the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and other regulatory agencies.  At the PUCO, Mr. Kravitz has represented commercial consumers in electric rate cases, successfully represented a utility in its stock purchase acquisition of another utility, and assisted in the defense of a retail gas marketer in a marketing and anti-competition dispute.  Mr. Kravitz advises industrial clients with respect to electric purchase agreements between utilities and retail electric suppliers.  Mr. Kravitz also works with clients concerning emerging green energy issues and establishing renewable energy certification at the PUCO. 

Prior to joining Taft, Mr. Kravitz served in the Ohio Attorney General’s Office as an Assistant Attorney General in the Labor Relations section.  While at the Attorney General’s Office, Mr. Kravitz was selected to be a member of the Attorney General’s Special Litigation Group.  As an attorney in private practice, Mr. Kravitz served as trial counsel in the successful defense of Jim Happ in U.S. v. Happ.  The charges in the Happ case involved allegations of a $1.9 billion criminal securities fraud, which, at the time, was the largest private securities fraud case in US history.   Mr. Happ was the only charged defendant to be acquitted.
