John J. McCoy

JOHN J. MCCOY is a member of the Business and Finance Department who is currently on a leave of absence while he serves as Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel for the National Stock Exchange. Mr. McCoy's practice has involved representation of public and closely held businesses. He has focused experience in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance (including internal investigations), securities, banking and finance, health care, construction, commercial transactions and securities markets regulatory matters. His experience includes service as counsel to several public companies and as outside general counsel to the National Stock Exchange. Prior to joining the firm's Business and Finance Department, Mr. McCoy practiced in the firm's litigation group, gaining extensive first chair trial and appellate experience in business, securities, construction and First Amendment cases. He was a partner in the firm from 1985 through July 2008, served on the firm's Executive Committee from 2001 through July 2008 and is admitted to the bars of Ohio, various U.S. district courts and courts of appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. McCoy received his Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics (summa cum laude) from Xavier University and his law degree from the University of Chicago School of Law. Mr. McCoy is listed in the latest edition of The Best Lawyers in America by Woodward/White, Inc. and is listed as an Ohio Super Lawyer.
