ARBUTUS LIKENS CARLISLE is of counsel in the Dayton office of Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP. She received her undergraduate degree, graduating summa cum laude, from Columbia Union College, master's degree from Andrews University, and law degree from Chicago Kent College of Law. Prior to beginning her legal career, Ms. Carlisle served seventeen years for nonprofit hospitals in the areas of risk management, patient relations and pastoral care. She provides a full range of corporate legal services, including working with boards and medical staffs, and is experienced in all aspects of health care transactions and contracts in light of business, regulatory and accrediting standards. Ms. Carlisle is experienced with (1) healthcare compliance and regulatory counseling (e.g. Stark, Anti-kickback, EMTALA, HIPAA, False Claims Act); (2) medical staff issues (drafting and reviewing bylaws, credentialing matters, residency programs, drafting policies and procedures); (3) physician contracting and compensation; (4) representing medical practices and the acquisition and sale of medical practices; (5) accreditation counseling; (6) corporate bylaws; (7) medical legal policies and procedures; (8) general hospital contracting; (9) ambulatory surgery centers and specialty hospitals; (10) nursing issues; (11) governance and corporate compliance; and (12) risk management issues.  Ms. Carlisle is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and has authored a Practice Resource for its Journal of Health and Life Science.   She also is a member of the firm’s Professional Women’s Resource Group (PWRG).
